  1. But I may not really need to have the fastest burner ofr my 1st one. I can probably live with 4X.

so what was the best or the top 3 best 4X burners?

I am more concerned with dvd copying so cd performance doesnt matter.

I need to know what 4x had the most compatibiltiy and was the bomb before the 8X starting coming out.

might be able to find a great deal on a 4X now

  3. The 106 is on my list of choices along with the new 8X writers. at NewEgg the 106 is almost as much as the Optiron & the Lite-on 8X writers.

If I can find a good deal on a 106 I will think about it. I have seen no bad things about the Pioneers , old or new models.

  6. I am well aware of all that now since I posted before.

I am not entirely sure that I need 8X to do what I need but yes the NEC2500 is looking really sweet and it does what I need it to do very well.

I am going for DVD write quality. the new Pioneer is out of my range right now. unless I waite......

I would get the Pioneer or the NEC based on quality and ability to write on different media.

    thanks

I like the Pioneer 106. I'm in that much of a hurry for 8X or want to pay the extra price for the media.

My NEC 1300a burns on anything I throw at it, and burns them plenty fast. 4x = about 15 min to burn a whole disc. Which is in my opinion plenty fast. But then again I had a 4x cd-rw up until I bought my DVD burner last October. It took about 20min to burn a CD, but I have never been in such a hurry to burn a disc for that to be a problem.

    Pioneer is best.

    Avoid Sony.

BTC and NEC and LiteOn, your mileage may vary.

If you're concerned about media costs, some of the drives will burn 8x on 4x media, and if you really want to burn at 4x you can get by with low end 4x media.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.
