I have just obtained an LG 4020 DVD Writer. It was second hand at a very good price but came with no software, hardware, leads etc. I knew this at the time of purchase and wasn't bothered as I have all that stuff.
I fitted the drive to my Windows XP Pro machine and it was detected and worked first time.
I successfully formatted a DVD-RAM using the native windows software but noticed that the formatted size if 4.26GB and not 4.7GB as expected.
Is this right or do I need a specific driver. If I do need a driver where could I get one from - the LG site has no driver support for its DVD Writers.
I did manage to locate some firmware through internet searches and upgrades to version A109 but this didn't make any difference.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Nigel

You have it right. Thats is size for a DVD-RAM. Also its the naming game when it comes to how much capacity disks can hold , just like your 80/120/160/200 GB HD is never that size (long story). Also when I had the LG4040, the DVD RAM discs when formatted were always smaller the the DVD-/+ r discs. I think this has to do with the error checking and formatting sectors that the DVD RAM uses
