I spoke to Philips (Australia) yesterday to check on the FW version on my DVDR75 and it turns out they just released an update that day. I couldn't get too many details out of them, as it was only released yesterday morning, but it is applicable to at least the DVDR75 & 77. They're sending it to me in the mail and I should have it in a few days time. I'll post some more details when it arrives.
I haven't seen it posted yet at the Philips Australian website, as I keep getting sent to Philips Germany when I click on Customer Care??? If you're in Australia and you have a Philips DVD Recorder, it might be worth giving them a call to see if the update is applicable to your recorder.
Andy.

I got the fw update from Philips (Australia). The disc was marked 'Service Disc 6'. Aparently the DVDR75 has been released in Australia with the latest fw. (It's only been available here for a short time). Service disc 6 updates all models pre the 75.
I've still had no issues with the DVDR75 to date.
