  1. Hi guys. I've doing DVD to VCD for a quite a long time but this is first for this kind of problem.

First off I'm converting a NTSC 4:3 (29.97) DVD to VCD using DVD2AVI and TMPGENC. Also note this problem is ONLY for this one particular movie, I've converted many others of these same specs without the problem below..

The problem is after I have encoded the vobs to VCD standard the audio is way out of sync with the video HOWEVER only after 1/4 or so of the movie has played the first 10 or so minutes is just fine. Note: this is while playing the .mpg straight from the computer so it's nothing to do with a vcd player problem or burning problem etc.. Naturally when I burn the file with nero in VCD it's out of sync as well.

Another note is when I play the vob files on my HD using Powerdvd everything is in sync fine so should be no probl with the vobs. Something I tried try and isolate the problem was this. I set up TMPGENC to just incode a 30 sec increment 3/4 way through the movie and then play back just that small file and see how it was.. same problem. out of sync.. so then I setup DVD2AVI to only save the same portion of the movie as I selected in TMPGENC and not the whole thing.. I then setup TMPGENC the same and this time it worked! The audio was in sync. So the problem then is DVD2AVI, but what is making it screw up when I save the whole project versus just a small portion in the middle to 3/4 of the movie??? Since this is only a 65 min production I don't want to encode from 2 seperate DVD2AVI project saves because I want to burn it onto one CDR. If it was a 2 hour show then that may be an option.

Am I the only one to have this problem? Anyone else? Comments are much appreciated.. this one is driving me nuts. all others work fine!

P.S. I'm not using forced film in DVD2AVI nor the VCDfilm template.. I'm using straight 29.97.

  2. I do not claim to be an expert, but....
Spend some time and see if either the video or audio frame rate change midstream.... If it does, this would cause your async. I would watch a preview using DVD2AVI and see if the indicator is consistanly saying 29.97 fps...

Is this DVD from a big name publisher or private label ?

  4. Thanx for the response.. The subject was mainly to get attention.. hehe

Anyway I'll check out the first suggestion but I recall it was fine when I did the preview for a few seconds when I first tried that a week or so back.

As for the title it's actually an adult dvd and it's from Vivid. Most adult dvd's are 4:3 29.97 NTSC at least in North America.

  5. I have had this problem once before, the best way I found to solve it was to do that movie with FlaskMpg it seems to do about anything but it is considerably slower.

  6. does each segment have a separate audio offset time? because if you only "align" the first one and then just join them, the rest are still out of sync...

  7. When using Flask, there is no joining. Therefore how can it be out of SYNC.

  8. Suggestion..No solution

Since you say its an adult DVD..
    Frequently theu include multiangle shots.

Maybe something to do with this??

Do your programs recognise and support this??

    Dunno??
