I just want to ask you guys which one will you get or owned so far? I'm leaning on getting the 812s as it supports 8x both on +/-.
Does anyone knows if 812s support "bitsetting" and “Correct EFM encoding of regular bit patterns”.?
Where can I get then in Canada? Vancouver in particular.
Thanks for your help.

please help me choose the best dvd burner among the 3 mentioned. i think riht now the 812s is not yet in the market but its already at www.liteonit.com website. would it be worth to wait for 812s which burns 8x on both +/-?
there's anoher burner that's pretty the same ---> NEC ND2500A but I read in the review of cdfreks.com that it does not allow for backing up protected games. is it really necessary?
does 811s supprts this feature? what about 812s? how would you now if the dvd burner will allow for backingup protected dvd or games?
please help. thanks for your inputs. -
You can find a full review of LiteOn 811 here, it has the answer you're looking for:

The LiteOn 811 was considered as a very good writer unitl the NEC 2500 came to the market. It has a much better write quality. Compared to this new writer, LiteOn 811 write quality is not very hot.
But, now there are some issues with NEC 2500 as well. For example, there are currently three different firmwares for it, two of them have the same firmware number, which makes it very confusing.
Also, for some reason, the write quality of NEC 2500 on Ritek G04 media is not very good. This media is very popular. I don't think they have figured out why it is so yet.
You can read some about write quality of the new NEC 2500 and comparisons with LiteOn 811 here:

I would definitely get the NEC2500 over the Liteon 811 or 12s. I own both and can tell you from experience that the NEC writes better to more media. The Liteon has alot of firmwares and i have spent countlesss hours trying to fix it with no resolution. I even returned it for a new one and same thing. The NEC2500 was awesome right off the bat

Does NEC ND2500A supports "correct EFM encoding of regular bit patterns"? Also does it support reading/writing discs larger than 90 minutes? Are these really necessary?
My biggest concern is making movie backups that would play on any DVD player.
