    Hi

I've made quite a few VCD's on both my Win98 & WinXP PC's and none (except one) have any problems. The thing is my father wants to watch some of my VCD movies but he doesn't have a DVD player (and I aint willing to give him one of mine LOL) but he has a Mac computer. I know 'stuff all' about the compatibility side of Mac's, I have played a mpeg file (I had on a CD) on his Mac, but what I really want to know is will the VCD play without any probs in Quicktime (or what ever other players he has), and will it load automatically?

Is there a way I can include a VCD player on my VCD discs that will automatically install (or prompt to be installed) once the disc in put in the drive, of cause it will have to be Mac compatible.

As you may have noticed I am a Newbie to this.

  2. I think one of the first things we need to know is what type of OS your grandfather is running. Is he using OS 9 or OS X? MacVCD or FreeVCD work well in OS 9 and VLC works well in OS X. Go visit VersionTracker to find the progs for download.

VCDs dont automatically play without some help.

However, in OS 9 and since OS X 10.3, you can use QuickTime to navigate to the .DAT file in the MPEGAV folder on the VCD and play it. No need for VLC, MacVCD or other apps.

I suppose I meant, if a 'player' such as QuickTime is opened, will the VCD automatically load. e.g. when I place a VCD in the drive (of my PC) and then open WinDVD, the movie automatically plays, and vice versa.

The reason I'm asking this, is that I want to make it as easy as possible for my mother to watch VCD's, as she is far from being technically minded. I myself (as well as my father) would know how to do it manually, but teaching her 'too much' will frustrate her. So as long as I can show her in 1 or 2 steps what to do, she'll be fine.

    Thanx for your replies
