nec1300a.... problem with media recognition

I have just installed an NEC1300a writer and it plays DVD's and CD's fine but it wont reconize any blank DVD's or CD'c I put in it. Both Memorex and Maxell +R do not respond. I have done a firmware update (1.09) and still no luck. All I get is "Please insert a disk into drive".

Any Ideas?

DVDInfo pro will give you lots of info about the discs. See if it recognizes the discs and post some of the media info.

I've used the following media with my NEC-ND 1300A without issues:

FUJI (MADE IN JAPAN aka TAIYO-YUDEN brand) DVD-R discs
TDK (MADE IN JAPAN aka MXL media code) DVD-R discs
SONY (Made in Taiwan and Made in Austria media code SONY) DVD-R discs

For CD I've only used the MADE IN JAPAN FUCI CD-R discs which are Taiyo-Yuden. Again no problems.

I have the official 1.09 firmware.

i use memorex, maxell, sony and hp -r discs and sony +r's on my 1300a with the 1.09 firmware. dont know whats wrong.

Yes, Maxell +RW 2.4x (CMC manufacture) works perfectly. (1.09 firmware)

Sounds more like a burning software problem.
either no sofware installed -therefore only reconized as player OR
need to update software to reconize that burner
many bundled s/w only work with drive shipped with
