  1. Hello all,

I've searched the site and the forums for an answer
and am not able to find one for my question -- even
though I don't doubt it's in the site somewhere.

I have a dvdr that was burned from a vhs tape to a
standalone player. There is a basic menu at the beginning
of the dvd-r that allows me to start the dvd and view
it's contents (very low tech). The dvdr does not have any additional
chapters at the menu level, but does seem to have a random
chapter built into the presentation about every 5 minutes.

I want to create my own advanced menu and chapter options
using the captured film that was recorded from the standalone
player. I know how to create the advanced menu options, but
how do I get the video file into a format that will allow
me to create this new disc?

If I burn a new disc using dvdshrink and capture only the
"movie" portion of the disc (sans the low tech menu) will
the random chapters built into the disc be stripped from
the main "movie" file? Also, do I need to convert the vob
files from dvdshrink to mp2 to add in the new chapters?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mike in IA

  2. I'd use TMPGEnc DVD Author. rip the files to your HDD as normal with DVD Decryptor or DVD Shrink. then use TDA to open DVD Video and point it to the folder with your ripped files. It should open them fine and ask you if you want to keep the chapter information. choose not to and it won't import the 5 minute chapter marks, just the movie itself and you can set your own chapter points.

  3. ulead dvd-moviefactory 3 is excellent for this,i use it for vhs tapes that
i've burned to dvd with set top dvd-recorder.it will also rip the dvd directly into the program for you,no other tools needed.can also do motion menus/thumbnails.i erase the chapters that dvd-recorder puts in & add my own at intervals to create 2 chapter selection screens.it's very easy to use,it's quick & the results are great.
