How can I backup a PAL dvd as NTSC. I already backed it up as .vob, .pub and .ifo files. I only realized that I backed it up as PAL and not NTSC today and I don't have the DVD at this time. Is there anyway to convert the files that are on my pc to NTSC? I know how to do it with the DVD using dvdshrink but not when it is already ripped.

Here are the files I have:
These are the files that are displayed when I click on Open Files in Dvdshrink
I can't select all of it at once. When I click on some of them it imports it in dvdshrink but when I click on others, this is what it says
I don't know what to do. Should I just import and convert only the ones that work or will it not work without the others. -

I think I found a way. All I got to do is use dvd decrypter. Does anyone know how to make a dvd region free in decrypter.

The only way to convert from PAL to NTSC is to re-encode using a proper MPEG encoder such as TMPGEnc Plus or CINEMA CRAFT ENCODER etc.
You can't do that with a transcoder such as DVDShrink
If you rip the DVD with DVD Decrypter in ISO MODE or FILE MODE then it will make it REGION FREE but it will still be PAL format.
Now some DVD players can convert PAL to NTSC but most "mainstream" models (SONY and PANASONIC for instance) will not do this conversion.
So first check the DVD Players link on this website to see if you own a DVD player that does such a conversion. If not then you need to decide one of two things:
1.) Buy a DVD player that does PAL to NTSC conversion
2.) Convert the DVD from PAL to NTSC with a MPEG encoder
Step 2 is damn tricky if you are a newbie but I can post some guides and past threads that cover it if you are interested in going that way.
As for a REGION FREE DVD Player that does PAL to NTSC you are hard pressed to beat the Cyberhome CH-DVD 500 but these days there are more choices than there used to be but still that is my recommendation.

It sucks. I don't understand how dvdshrink, dvddecrypter and all other progs make it region free if it is really not. DVD player in my room is Samsung s221 and it can't play those "region free pal cds."
Can you point me to any guides on how I can make it truly NTSC. I don't know if I want to do it, I want to see it first if it is not too much trouble.
Thanks. -

And Region Coding is more than just NTSC or PAL formating......

I checked out the link. There is one guide on how to convert a dvd. When I will be converting my dvd from Pal to NTSC is there any way to keep the original menu?
Also is that guide any good? -

P.S.
As already noted by the j1d10t Corporation (who has an excellent program on H20) the REGION CODE and the VIDEO FORMAT (PAL or NTSC) or two different things."The eyes are the first thing that you have to destroy ... because they have seen too many bad things" - Lucio Fulci

I can see that it is a very comlicated process. I decided that one dvd does not worth the effort. If I ever get more PAL dvds I'll just spend $50 bucks for a dvd player.
Thank for you help all. -

A few months ago I started writing a guide with screen shots of the software programs indicating how to set things up etc. but I got tired of it and never finished it.
It's a shame though ... so few people seem to want to follow through thinking it's all too hard ... AviSynth in particular seems to scare many away ... but it does work and work well
