1) open case
2) find a free 5.25 " bay
3) set DVD writer jumper to slave or master on the back of the writer(depending on what else is istalled on that IDE cable, if its the only device set to master, see IDE below)
4) mount writer in bay
5) Now the hardest part: If you only have one IDE cable attached then usually its connecting ur HD. Most IDE cables have 2 sets of connectors. If you only have one cable, one connector is usally used by the HD and its usally set as master, then set DVD as slave and connect to the second connector on that cable. If you have a second IDE cable (looks like and is identical to your HD cable) then its better to connect the cable to the second IDE header on the motherboard and then connect the writer as master to that cable by itself (note notch (keyed) positions on IDE cable ends so it lines up with notch on writer connector and the notch on the motherborad header)
7) close case
8) install software flavours of choice
9) try it and if there are any prob's come back and ask for help.
You can also install the anolog or digital audio cable from the writer to ur sound card if you want. But I dont bother anymore since digital audio will be provided via the IDE connection to ur digital sound card. Some pple do it and some dont. Your choice. Regardless the audio will get to your writer and vise versa so you will get sound.
else pay $20-$30 and have a PC tech do it for you.
