Hi all. I've been using DVDx for encoding DVD's to VCD's. Previously I used DVDx 2.0 and it worked fine for me. Recently I upgraded to DVDx 2.2 and was surprised that it encoded quite a lot slower than the older DVDx 2.0 when run on my AthlonXP 2400+.
The speed difference is quite significant, dropped from about 31fps down to about 22fps using the exact same quality settings etc. Has anyone else that uses DVDx noticed this.
BTW. It is very interesting to note that this only seems to happen on the Athlon. On my friends P4 (2.6GHz) system there was the exact opposite result, his encoding speed went from about 24fps up to about 32fps when he switched to DVDx 2.2. I'm guessing that they must have done a lot of P4 specific optimizations in the 2.2 version that the Athlon doesn't like so well.
Does anyone know if there is any significant quality difference in the resultant VCD's from DVDx2.0 as opposed to DVDx2.2 ? I'm very tempted to just stay with 2.0 as it clearly runs a lot faster on my hardware. Personally I dont notice any obvious differnce in quality btween the two outputsa. Has anyone else looked into the quality differences of these two version?
