  1. I am certainly new to this. I had the standard Dell NEC DVD+RW drive and I wanted a dual drive, so I got the ND-1300A. The new drive only came with the Nero OEM Suite, but no installation instructions. I just took the old DVD+RW drive out and put in the new dual drive, replacing all of the same cables as they were on the old drive. I teied to burn some home video I had previously made to an Imation 4.7 DVD-RW disc, but I received an error message that there was no disc in the drive. I tried a couple more times without any luck. However, I was able to burn the video to a Fuji CD-R disc and play it back on my computer. However, the CD wouldn't play in my DVD player.

With a dual drive, is there something I need to do to switch between + or - media? I have to be honest in stating that all I did was install the drive and burn the movie to CD using Windows Moviemaker. That's as far as I've gotten. Can someone help?

Upgrading your firmware to 1.09 will help alot. I had problems with media until I'd upgraded and now it burns most anything I've tried and I've tried alot of different media. If you don't upgrade, Ritek media should work for you

    Firmware
The firmware of a device is the program code that is permanently stored in the device's memory. It contains all the necessary software routines to make the device fully functional. New updated firmware is sometimes distributed for dvd players, cd/dvd writers and many other computer devices to add features or fix bugs.

If your original drive was a NEC 1100 you might have upgraded for nothing. I believe there is firmware available that makes it a dual format burner.
