I will try to explain this the best I can as Im still a newbie in training. I want to convert my mpeg1 NSTC video to a complaint dvd 29.97 format. I'm currently using both Tmpgenc and DVD author and thats my biggest obstacle at the moment, b/c when I run the tmgenc dvd author it gives me this error:
"The video framerate 23.97 fps cannot be used for standard dvd..."
I searched all the forums, read all the guides but none of them actually provided a direct explanation. I know theres a way to convert the compliant dvd format w/o having to re-encode because thats gonna take me a lifetime since the bulk of my files are mepg1 format. I don't want anything fancy...I just want to get past the error and burn these files onto a dvd-r!!!Please help

23.976fps is only supported in the DVD standard when using mpeg2 video, as long as you include pulldown flags.
You are pretty much out of luck if you want to make a compliant DVD. With 23.976fps mpeg1 material you have only 2 choices. You can re-encode those files to mpeg2 at 23.976fps and include pulldown flags or you can re-encode it to 29.97fps mpeg1. Neither of these are particularly desirable. Is there a reason you don't just burn these as VCD? Does your DVD player not support that?
Your only other option would be to try to trick both the authoring software and your dvd player into playing these files as is. You could maybe repatch the mpegs with an mpeg2 file header. Use TMPGenc to demultiplex (file/mpeg tools/simpile demultiplex) then rename the .m1v file it gives you to .m2v and then run pulldown.exe on it to add the pulldown flags. Then remultiplex in TMPGenc (file/mpeg tools/simple multiplex) but select mpeg2 as your output. Then import this back into TMPGenc DVD Author and cross your fingers. If it works then try playing it on your DVD player and cross both fingers.
My suggestion, just author these as VCDs. Converting these to DVDs is either going to lower quality or greatly decrease compatibility...or both.
