Hello,
I'm trying to convert a Avi (Divx) to a SVCD with TMPGEnc, so I started the wizard and when I tried to lower the bitrate under 1600 I was unable to.
Can something be done ?
Thanks![]()

There's no point.
SVCD bitrates below 1600 aren't worth doing. Unless it's a letterboxed anamophic source, don't bother. For one more CDR instead.
Load the unlock.mcf temnplate and you will be able to lower the bitrate in the templates. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
I see..
But if I use the unlock.mcf I wont be able to "wizard" with it, I mean I wont know the file size according to the bitrate. Is there an equation or some other way for me to check the file size depending on the bitrate ?
Thanks again. -
Use a bitrate calculator ahead of time and dont use the wizard, do the settings manually.

That answers one of the questions I had. But I have a few others.
Is it worth the trouble to create VBR SVCD at 1600Mb verses VCD? Because the shows are around 56-58mins long so I'm stuck around that bitrate... but on the other hand I wouldn't mind filling my CD-R's for a change.
Do you consider noise reduction worth it if you have a high quality capture your converting?
I guess these are newbie questions, but I have one more...
I noticed that VCD is narrower than SVCD (at least on 4:3 displays), which is the more accurate ratio for 4:3 captures?"Money obfuscates truth for aggravating periods of time." -
If you want to use SVCD with a bitrate lower than 1600, and use the wizard, you can select the Super VideoCD (long sustained format) and use that. please note that it is not a standard format, so some players may have problems playing it.
however, most players that can handle SVCD can handle this format just fine.
I use this format when quality isnt an issue.
I use 352x480, 950kbps cbr, mp2 @ 192kbps 44.1khz...
I would rather just use two discs, though. that way you would get much better image quality.
.....
VCD and SVCD both use 4:3 aspect ratio. neither is "narrower" or better to use for widescreen captures. just make sure that you have the "arrange method" set properly.
If you have a clip that has an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 (the widescreen format most movies seem to use) that is sized at 640x272, you arrange it...
on VCD: center (custom size) @ 352x136
on SVCD: center (custom size) @ 480x272
... and it should be displayed in the proper aspect ratio.asdf -
Half an hour per disc isn't bad, compared to the gain in quality you'll get. I'd just max the bitrate out and get my brother to change the disc for me.
Or, you could use make a VCD which can hold 80 minutes per CD-R. As long as you take your time making them, they can look pretty good for the amount of disc space they take up.
