  1. The 2.1.3.1 section in the 0.7.10 VCDImager manual says that filenames added to a VCD/SVCD can be a maximum of 31 characters. I cannot get VCDImager or TSCV to add one that exceeds 8 characters in length. When I try to add one larger than 8 characters, I get an error message:
pathname '/xxx/xxx/.../filename31characters.ext' is not a valid iso pathname

Does anyone know about this discrepancy and how to fix it?

  2. The ISO Level 1 (??) limits on the filename is the 8.3 format (remember MS-DOS?).

The 31 character limit refers to the total path and filename length.

I also think you can't have any sub-folders more than 8 levels deep.

  3. Yes ISO Level 1 is definitely 8+3.

But this document says the maximum PATH length is 255 characters, that the maximum FILE name is 31 characters and that the folders cannot be nested more than 8 deep.

Now ISO Level 2 is 31 character filenames. Perhaps this hasn't actually been implemented even though the user manual seems to refer to it.

  4. Okay, I read the relevant section in the manual and I see what you mean.

Why don't you send an e-mail to hvr and ask him?

  5. jazzer,

Mailed hvr... If you read the manual in the newest version 0.7.11, it now explicitly limits the filename to ISO Level 1... but according to hvr, he may put an option to relax it in the near future.

  6. winoncd and nero can add a secondary joliet volume descriptor. that allows long filenames without destroying the ISO Level 1 filenames.
