Hi!
I'm a newbie to this forum as well as to DVD authoring. I went through the forum but was unable to find this issue that I'm experiencing with VideoStudio 7. I have seen solutions for a similar error for MovieFactory though I'm not sure whether the solution translates over to VS 7.
I have been burning home movies, from a Digital 8 Camcorder, to DVD. I generally capture the video in DVD format (Bitrate 8000 KBPS), edit into clips to fit the 1 hour 16 minutes that the DVD will allow me, add transitions, titles, chapters & menus, and, burn to DVD. I have successfully burnt 12 DVDs without a single issue.
However, the 13th project is creating an issue. The project length is 1hr 14 minutes (4.2 GB) and it is constantly giving me the following error when attempting to burn to DVD:
"Disc space is not enough. Insert a new disc to retry or press Cancel to stop the process. [93006:1:0]"
The process completes "converting videos" and "audio/video multiplexing" before I get this error. On clicking "Retry" and then clicking "Output" it gives me the same error.
For this project, I had selected a mp3 (4.8 MB) for the Title menus which bumped the project size to 4.3 GB. I removed the MP3 and tried re-burning but got the same error.
The ONLY thing different in this DVD is the fact that I am using one of the Ulead provided "AVI" sample clips as my first clip. The clip is the "Lantern Festival Clip". This has been my first attempt at mixing AVI and MPEG-2 files.
I even tried to burn a DVD after removing the AVI clip, but to no avail. I still get the same message.
I checked my "Convert" file for this project.....it shows up at 4.59GB (approx. 4,700MB)......though the VideoStudio "Create Disk" window displays the project at around 4.3GB
My Disk Fragmentation is at: C: 2.5% and D: 3.5%.
Computer Specs: P4 2.0A 512K L2 cache, 1GB RAM, 80GB with 22.5GB Free. Intel 845GL with 64MB shared memory.
VideoStudio 7: Upgraded to v.7.01 with recommended patch.
I'm really at a loss to understand what went wrong all of a sudden??? I'm doing nothing different than I've done previously!!
PLEASE HELP!!!! Your suggestions and solutions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Kohi.

Thanks TommyKnocker!
I have been burning the other DVD's captured in EXACTLY the same way..same bitrate, etc. I have been getting at max. 1 hr 16 minutes from each DVD. If it went over 4.4GB it would tell me that the DVD could not accomodate the entire project.
I am well below that 4.4GB threshold -I feel the program is making an error in estimating the right project size.
Ulead's Movie Factory has a patch to address this problem (link below) and I was hoping someone had seen this issue for VideoStudio.

Snafu, thanks for the great link!!
I spoke with Ulead Tech Support this afternoon. KUDOS to them!! They called back within 24 hours - It was great, especially this being a long weekend.
Everything you guys said finally made sense (Remember, I'm a newbie!!). Seems like I have just been lucky the 12 times I got 1 hour 16 minutes on a DVD. At a bitrate of 8000 kbps, Ulead expects only about an hour of video to fit on a single DVD. Their estimation tool (in the "Create DVD" window) has an error margin of about "0.2 GB". Also, this is an "estimation"!! If the video does not compress as well as the engine thought it would, you're out of luck. I might use Snafu's suggestion and try a burn with DVDShrink, else try TommyKnocker's (as well as Ulead's) suggestion to reduce the bitrate for this project. Guess they both point to the same solution.
THANKS A LOT!! I really appreciate you'll taking the time to help me out. I think I have found a new home in this forum.
With Best Regards,

The update patch at the following FTP site also works for Ulead VideoStudio 7.01 to expand DVD authoring compatibility with newer drives:

I was hoping that you would reply to my post. Have you encountered any of these inaccurate "estimation" issues with VS 7.0. I know you suggested a link to the MovieFactory patch to address this issue......do you think this might be a similar issue?
Also, did Ulead ever get back to you on the filter you suggested for extracting and imprinting date/time from the Data Code??
Thank you! -
The patch I referenced is intended for ALL applications by Ulead that perform DVD authoring - as they all use the same engine.
I've not experienced any file size estimation issues, personally.
However, the patch I referenced is periodically updated to fix burning errors and expand compatibility with newer drives.
As for DV time stamp window burning, I found something:
I have no idea how well this works.
Maybe some enterprising soul will try it and report back:
