i used canopus procoder and it made an m2v, well at the end the format is .m2v. is that the same as an mpeg2.. it also make a wave file of a video i encoded. is there a way in procoder to combine the ideo and sound in one file so i can authorize then in my uled dvd authoring program or do i have to put both the video and the wave in seperate?
thanks

I'm not familiar with Procoder, but if you want to combine video and audio into a merged stream, look for an option that allows for .MPG program stream....

in procoder there are two options one is video plus .wav. the other option is program stream. whats the program stream is that just another name that means the rendering will be combined instead of having separate video and audio

Correct, program stream will give you an .MPG file that should be able to be used in most authouring programs..
What happens, is your video (.m2v stream) and your audio (.m2p stream), get output to a program stream (.MPG)
You'll notice though, your audio isn't a .wav, but rather a compressed version. You'll have to make sure your settings are correct. For DVD, you need 48000hz..In general 192-224kbps should do fine.... -
why are there two differnet options? is one better quality than the other?
also when i tried to put my video file then add my .wav file from procoder into moviefactroy to burn i tested the sync between the video and audio and it was off..when procoder separates video and wav file cause problems.. the original sync was fine. what happened? how to correct? im encoding one now with program stream?
thanks -
There's 2 different options, because if you wish, you can filter out your audio. Also, some DVD authouring softwares prefer that you have two separate streams...
Some encoders will let you do multiple passes, and for this your video stream is only necessary...
Encoding to .MPG is probably the simplest, in terms of usability....
If you have synch issues, make sure that your .WAV file is 48000hz...If the original is 41000hz, you'll have to resample the audio...
Hey, look at that. Another good reason for two separate streams. Now go to the left, and under the tools section, find an audio editor that lets you resample.
Good luck!!!!! -
thanks,
my original was 44khz mono, 64kps layer 2. the program stream was out of sync to.. im going do it thru ulead to see if ulead video studio does the same thing if it doesnt procoder stinks unless im doing it wrong..
what audio do i resample? never done that before can i use vurtualdubmod for that?
thanks again.. -
I'd always prefer to output two elementary streams instead of a program stream bacause of 2 reasons:
1. As it has already been mentioned most authoring programs prefer two elementary streams as they seem to love doing the multiplexing on their own
2. You can use an audio encoder instead of the built-in, and in most cases rather bad, audio encoding routines of your mpeg-encoder. You can convert your wav to ac3 instead of mpeg-audio this way, there are free audio-encoders out there which perform very well.
As I "capture" video as DV-Avi I get pcm-wave files at 48kHz already resampling is unnecessary, too.

The option to output a wave file is fine when creating a DVD with uncompressed PCM audio. The authoring program imports the video file and the wav file separately and combine them into the vob files of the final DVD.
By the way if you create a program stream with Procoder it will get some strange extention like m2p in the filename but then you can safely rename it to mpg. A mpg file cannot contain uncompressed audio so that is another reason why it outputs wav separately.Ronny
