Am new and I need some info. I found that a DVD's properties have,NTSC, 29.97 fps and 720x480 resolution. What roperties sholud I look for in an AVI file to convert to a MPEG-2 for DVD'S. Thanks.

Seriously, as high a resolution as you can (if not identical to the one you want). The same goes for framerate. The more coversion you have to do, the lower the quality. Watch out for codec's too - uncrompressed AVI's are better than say Indeo, Cinepak etc. DivX encoded files can be very good, although some people swear by Xvid. Don't expect stuff you download to be of decent quality if that's where you're going with this. AVI's are usually compressed to buggery to make the file sizes more appealing, unfortunately this is at the expense of quality when the source material probably wasn't A1 to start off with.
