  1. Hello

I am backing up some DVD's onto my hard drive so that I can move them onto a laptop to allow my son to watch some movies on long journeys etc..

Using DVD Shrink 3.1.2 I am able to take the compressed back up of the movie with no problems (movie only). When I burn this onto a DVD and play back the sound is fine. However when I use PowerDVD to watch direct from the hard drive there is no sound (well almost no sound, on the 4th VOB file there was sound)
Is there any way I can ensure that the sounds plays through the movie. I am wondering if I am not opening the movie correctly. I have tried double clicking on the VOB files and also selecting all the VOB files through PowerDVD and playing.

Not sure what i am doing wrong?

its because the default stream will have no audio specified in it

if you open the VIDEO_TS.IFO using PowerDVD then it should playback OK but playing the VOB's by themselves may cause silence

you could modify the default stream in the IFO to play the stream of your choice

  3. Hi

what version of Power DVD are you using?
do you open the files through "select source"?? as in the picture

  4. Hello

I will have to check the version, but yes I am using the select source section and I hightlight the five VOB files. Only the fourth one plays sound, if I flick tracks on powerdvd to the fourth section the sound begins.

However, I will try out the IFO file that is also suggested and see if that makes a difference. I will post back the results tomorrow.

Cannot do it now as my girlfriend has just given birth to my first daughter and I am just on the laptop until I get tired and go to sleep.

    Cheers for the responses.

  5. Hi

    well congrats on that
when i pick the select source all i need to do is select the folder where all the files are in , i dont have to select single files or all the VOB files.
    maybe that is the problem...
