  1. Ok I'm new to this forum, and found it while searching for help cause what should've worked, did not. Here's the deal:

My girlfriend and I are trying to back-up her dvd movies. She has a new emachine with I think a combo DVD writer. A friend recommended 321 studio's DVD Copy Xpress (which I know people around here don't like by reading some posts, but...). We are also using memorex Dvd-r's. We choose dvd-r because on the paper insert thing on top of her Toshiba 3950 standalone it says it will support dvd-r (and says nothing about dvd+r). Well if anyone is familiar with 321 studio's programs, they put a "DVD Back-up" screen as the first thing that appears when you watch a "Backed-up" DVD. Well the Toshiba freezes everytime it comes to this screen. So much so that we have to unplug the player because no other button works. So next I tried it in my laptop, and it worked. So now that we know it burnt ok, what the heck? I've see some reviews about the 3950 here, and seen that people who tried -r have gotten it to work, and I didn't see any failures. Any ideas? Thanks, and hopefully this is enough info.

Oh yeah, we did try two different movies of hers and they both froze on the toshiba.

  2. Could be as simple as the Toshiba player doesn't like the Memorex DVD's. Try a different brand.

Also try a different backup program, f.ex. DVDShrink, that doesn't put a "DVD backup" screen in there.

  3. I agree, vary your discs and burning speed. Go for Ritek G04's they are the best disc out there.
    If it's wet, drink it
