In this online article, they talk about the many benifits of coffee.
This is awsome news (especially the benefits mentioned) for all us coffee drinkers![]()

I just got a half pound of kitty poop coffee last week but haven't had a chance to try it. It smells absolutely wonderful for where it's supposed to come from. -
kitty poop coffee?!?!?!?!?!
No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space. -
I'll make this short and sweet (I could have a good long rant about this):
I think that article is very misleading. I study this sort of thing as part of my degree course.
I am not qualified, however, to discredit this article. I am only voicing my opinion.
I drink coffee, by the way. Out of a big, big mug.

I for one would like to hear your unqualified opinion on why that article is very misleading.
If it needs to be a long rant, feel free, the more i know the more my brain shrinksIf a man speaks in the middle of a forest and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong? -
Coffee --
The Elixir of Life and Nectar of the Gods!
I drink to the point that I can see through my eye lids.
If Starbucks had franchises I'd own one. But then again -- I'd probably drink all of my profits.

Wired on SUGAR and CAFFINE!! -
I've retracted what I said in light of a bit of research.
Sorry! -
I think I should clarify what I am saying - caffeine could be dangerous in other ways to you, even if it does help prevent certain conditions. The article fails to mention this.
Upon further research, I have found the following research has been carried out and verified. The data shows clearly that caffeine consumption lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Salazar-Martinez, Eduardo; Willett, Walter C.; Ascherio, Alberto; Manson, JoAnn E.; Leitzmann, Michael F.; Stampfer, Meir J.; Hu, Frank B.
Background: In small, short-term studies, acute administration of caffeine decreases insulin sensitivity and impairs glucose tolerance. Objective: To examine the long-term relationship between consumption of coffee and other caffeinated beverages and incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Design: Prospective cohort study. Setting: The Nurses' Health Study and Health Professionals' Follow-up Study. Participants: The authors followed 41 934 men from 1986 to 1998 and 84 276 women from 1980 to 1998. These participants did not have diabetes, cancer, or cardiovascular disease at baseline. Measurements: Coffee consumption was assessed every 2 to 4 years through validated questionnaires. Results: The authors documented 1333 new cases of type 2 diabetes in men and 4085 new cases in women. The authors found an inverse association between coffee intake and type 2 diabetes after adjustment for age, body mass index, and other risk factors. The multivariate relative risks for diabetes according to regular coffee consumption categories (0, <1, 1 to 3, 4 to 5, or gtoreq6 cups per day) in men were 1.00, 0.98, 0.93, 0.71, and 0.46 (95% CI, 0.26 to 0.82; P=0.007 for trend), respectively. The corresponding multivariate relative risks in women were 1.00, 1.16, 0.99, 0.70, and 0.71 (CI, 0.56 to 0.89; P<0.001 for trend), respectively. For decaffeinated coffee, the multivariate relative risks comparing persons who drank 4 cups or more per day with nondrinkers were 0.74 (CI, 0.48 to 1.12) for men and 0.85 (CI, 0.61 to 1.17) for women. Total caffeine intake from coffee and other sources was associated with a statistically significantly lower risk for diabetes in both men and women. Conclusions: These data suggest that long-term coffee consumption is associated with a statistically significantly lower risk for type 2 diabetes.

Sorry - I should have got my facts right before I knocked the claims.
Nevertheless, I am going to wait for more research to be carried out before I replace all my drinks with coffee. It could be a bit of a cost-benefit situation just now.

Do you need a partner? If so I'm there dude.

I just thought it was nice since I already drink 3-4 cups of coffee a day. I can tolerate the effects so now nervousness or shaking associated with it. I have to drink a LOT to get that to happen. I've been drinking coffee since age 10.
BTW the "kitty poop coffee" is kopi luwak, a coffee made from the excrement of the palm civet (aka a luwak). The civet eats the coffee bean cherries and digest the fruit but drops the bean. These are then taken to be washed and roasted. The way the animal's digestive tract reacts with the coffee bean enzymes is supposedly what gives it the flavor. I just had to try it to see if it really was all that. My favorite beans have always been Kona, but these do smell really good. And no, they don't smell like poo -
I love coffee and I drink heaps of it each day. Too much, 6 mugs a day?
The brand is Nescafe and this is the one I drink.
A greater evil is beer, too much of it. It gave me a hangover yesterday after too many 375ml (a pint)bottles of VB. -
i have one cup of carte noire fresh coffee every day at 10.30 in the office, perks me up and i look forward to that every morning. sad i know.

Coffee
Not a huge fan of drinking coffee or tea, much prefer a chocolate milk for brekky. -
I don't like the taste of coffee (even coffee cake / sweets) but am a tea drinker.

Some of you aren't paying attention. Read the link, read Cobra's quote.
The consumption of more than 6 cups of regular coffee reduces, by half from the articles I had read before, the incidence of diabetes.
So saying "Mmmm, I love my decaf, drink way too nuch", or "I have a cup of this really good stuff each morning" leave you in the group who may be diabetic down the road.
I drink probably a dozen cups a day of strong black coffee, first one of the AM, nuked cup from last night's pot. Pot in the shanty at work always being remade. Every dept. has a pot, get another.
Starbuck's ain't ever gonna beat Duinkin' Donuts, strong and really too hot to drink.
Funny thing is (not really funny, just shows our soapbox mentality), mebbe 18 years ago, there was a huge scare in the papers about 2 or more cups causing pancreatic cancer.
The medical researchers condemned the report, found some yoyo did a "scientific" study of asking people wit it if they dran coffee, tallied it up and wrote it up. Some actual medicos condemned it and, next day, papers were full of a retraction, "No, we didn't do a scientific, just a Chicken Little kind of thing!!!"
You gotta take all this with a grain of salt. Hell, what is it now, 200 years after "Origin of the Species", and Fundalmentalists still deny the Earth is over 6000 years old and we all have a common ancestor, and he clumb up outa the "Primal OOze"?
Cheers,
George -
