Well i usually back up everything but now and then this happens. I forgot to make a current backup. The thing is i have a
WD 120GB windows drive from which my PC refused to boot up since i hit reset while it was shutting down. Now i installed XP on my old hard drive and am backing everything up from it. but i cant back up my local folders from the new drive. Does anyone know which files i should be copying and where do i place it after a format?
Also how to back up email addresses wihout logging into xp![]()
thanks

This is the path for the custom outlook Folders and emails. You will have a different name instead of "smokey" of course
C:\Documents and Settings\Smokey\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{A41C13AE-26BF-4437-AA21-CDE0B41F958F}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
Just cut and paste your saved folder where the new one is and then restart Outlook Express
Your email addresses are saved in the WAB (Web address book)
It's in C:\Program files\Outlook express
I always save these to folders before I format.
After reinstalling XP delete the "new" WAB then paste your saved one that folder, sometimes cutting and pasting doesn't work.
Make sense -
Search for a folder with a whole bunch of *.dbx files in it. Each file is one of the folders from your outlook express mail. After that you have two options. If you copy the whole folder to where you want it then go into outlook express and tell it to move the save folder location it will say that there is already a mail system there and do you want to use it - say yes. If instead, you have been using outlook express already on your new build and want to add the old mail to your new folders use the import function under the file menu...
