Per the request of a newly appointed Jedi ( 8) ) here is what is known as the "Soap Trick"
For dvd's that are stubborn to rip after playing each chapter in dvd or vlc you can use a mild hand soapwith warm water. Rub the soap on the disk with your fingers. Rinse off with warm water.
shake the disk dry and let it air dry.
remove any water spots with a lint free cloth (I use my lcd screen wipe)
the trick is not to use anything that could scratch it to dry it off
believe it or not but towels, paper towels, even toilet paper can scratch it.
kleenex too and what a mess if you use the lotion kleenex!
Another option is to use the Hades Ripper that's been introduced recently. Though I have yet to test it on stubborn dvd's (been a LONG time since i have not had one work) its an alternative ripper that shows promise with some dvd's that people have problems with.
