  1. When you look at an divx movie on the computer almost every one looks good due to the small screen size even if I use fullscreen. When you have burnt the file and look at it using a projector the differences in quality betwen different movies get very obvious. Is there a program that can help you judge the video quality of a movie so I donīt have to burn it first?

    Grateful for any suggestions.

  2. I am assuming you a new at this. We need to know what kind of disc you are burning, VCD, SVCD, DIVx, DVD?? The source file aspect and bitrate will determine starting quality as well as one of the four formats listed. Give us more details.

  3. I am planning to use TMPGenc, IfoEdit and Nero to burn a DVD that could be played on a Pioneer standalone DVD-player.

When I use AVIcodec to analyze the movies I have, and taking your comment about bitrate into account, it seems to me that when the source file bitrates are above 1200 Kb/s the video quality is very good at resolution 640*272 and above 800 Kb/s at resolution 576*320. Is there a logic to that?

Please let me know if you need more information in order to help me. Many thanks in advance.

  4. 1200kbps is very very low, and 800kbps is unspeakable.

Try to encode at at least 4000kbps or 5000kbps.

  5. Jesse,

Sorry if have been a bit unclear. The bitrates I mention are the DivX sourcefiles. The m2v files are encoded at 8000kb/s. My question is how I best could judge the quality of the DivX files.

    Best
