    1) I have not updated the firmware; think that matters?
    2) I have burnt about 5 +R's (Khypermedia) w/ no problem; 2.4x speed
    3) These -R's are 1x; 1st two worked, then 3 coasters out of 4 tries

Is is the brand of discs? The speed? The firmware? Ideas?

I was writing large files (some > 800 MB) using Nero 5.x.x.x. DVD burned okay, but during data verification, they fail w/ some sort of "can't read from the DVD" error...?

    Thanks, I'll check it out!

What do you mean, 'Section'? I looked for a forum and did not find a Lite-On one, just general hardware.

these discs are not supported by ldw-411s

  6. Avoid "no-name" DVD-R discs. At the moment DVD+R No-names seem to be better but this will probably change in time too (for the worse, no doubt).

And what makes you think it will change?

So if I burnt a few (oh, say 2 out of 6?) that "verified" after copying to them via Nero, I am okay or I should make another copy?

Your Khypermedia are likely the dreaded CMC, you'd have issues likely reguardless of what burner you used. The reason why you do a little better with +R is most of the generic +R is Ricoh which is a very good disc. HOWEVER! CMC among other cheap manufactures are starting to make +R media, so it is correct that the crap fest begins for +R as well now.

  10. I recently lost two printable G04s ( ) with my 411S (FS0G) using Nero's Recode 2.0.0.7. The transcoding process went well, but the burn process failed in the same spot both times (about a third of the way through). I used a G03 (2X DVD-R) for the same files & the burn was successful!?!? Anyone run into problems with drive & the 411S? Recode? I might stay away from Recode from now & just use the recently released version of DVDShrink.

    Thanks,

I know that Maestro5050 just ran through about 30 G03s without any reported issue. As far as G04sI wouldn't think it would be THAT different.

i'll repeat my self once more for probably another large argument but nero does not support the ldw-411s 100% i have done the tests with programs and the only one that supports without any failures are recordnow dx and Hacd burning programs
if you think your discs have been backed up properly after using nero your in for a rude shock to see what happens to compressed files and large files names

  13. Hmm...

I have the LDW-411S. I upgraded the firmware to 'FS0F', not 'FS0G' as it is buggy and causes problems.

I have burnt many discs so far without any problems.

I have used Memorex, Maxell and TDK +R -R +RW -RW.

I have authored these with Nero and TMPGEnc DVD Author.

All of these discs runs in my JVC and Apex players.

I'm very happy...if I had not done all of the necessary updates, like the firmware to the writer and the patch for Nero, I'd be unhappy right now. I guess that's why updates are made available...pfft.

I have to ask what version of Nero you used for testing because using the latest which claims to fix problems with the DVD-Video templet we've had no issues. We first verified the problem with Nero using a PS2, very picky imac, and my cousins very picky DVD Player. At that time disc burned in Nero would work for most people, but NOT all three of those at the same time depending on settings. Heck not even on 2 at the same time. Like I said if you used either UDF/ISO or ISO with different settings you could get it to play on one, and MAYBE both but each time you were using settings you shouldn't have had to.

On the current nero so far I'm 2 out of 2. Disc burned just using the DVD-Video templet have worked in my imac at work, as well as my cousins DVD player. Just need to get my friends PS2 again to test it. If it works I'm ready to declare Neros DVD burn issues over.

  15. all i have to say is my lite-on 411s + nero 6 = coasters

about a third of the time the write fails (usually the lead-in), regardless of the media; and yes i have the newest firmware.

gonna try out that recordnow dx

  16. you should upgrade the firmware to work with more media...thats what i did with mine the first day i got it. The newest one was buggy so Liteon took it off for a while and put a working one on it...Now you can get the latest one at their sites or at cdfreaks.com 8)

  19. I have Liteon 411s with latest firmware to FS0F.

Using Nero 6.3.0.2 have burned over 50 perfect backups both at speeds of 2x and 4x but ONLY to DVD+R or +RW media. I used TDK, HP, CMC BRAND media, RICOHJPN. Play perfectly.

I have successfully burned 20 or so movie backups to DVD-R/-RW media all of which when analyzed were with many errors. When played they had skipping and freezing.

My conclusion. 411S eventhough specified as dual sucks ass at burning -R media.

I'm going to OfficeMax to by Khypermedia DVD+R (25 pack for 9.99 after rebate). If my predictions are correct, the burner should handle those disks well too. BTW, does anyone know who makes the DVD+R Khypermedia?

FWIW, I updated the firmware to FSOF and it burned what I had left of the Khypermedia -R discs at 2x (instead of 1x) without a problem.

    Doug,

If you upgrade to FSOH, wonder what you'd have.

    Flaystus,

I don't know if CMC makes a range of qualities, but my Philips +Rs are CMC.

Only bad burn I've had was last night when I stupidly shut down this machine while I was burning to the other machine over my LAN.

Gave an "Oh, shit" the same instant I clicked OK when the machine said I had a net connection, do you really want to shut down?

And, with Bitsetter, they are, so far, playing well, at least in my g'kids mini machine and my own Philips 724.

Like he said above, 25 for 9.99 after rebate, for Khypers, you can afford to test them.

    Cheers,

    George

BTW, Office Max, Magic Spin 8X Daul format, 80 bucks after 50 buck rebate. Second post I've asked anyone who bought one to tell me what brand is in the box.

  22. My friend has a 411s and it is an aweful burner, the only way he could fix his burning problems was to buy a pioneer A06. His 411s turned almost all -r media into coasters (tdk, ritek , princo , enzo , octoplus and go tech),Verbitam -r seemed to work ok. The +r side was much better but he done an error test on the discs and was getting high amount of c2 errors so he got a new burner.

ok a few have said nero burns fine but have you used kprobe or dvdinfopro to check errors on dvd disc
if you are using cheap discs for data storage you could end up with some big problems
    hope this helps
