    I am a newbie to dvd burning. what exactly is a dvd-5, dvd-9 dvd-18, etc. I may be wrong, but is a dvd-5 a single-layer dvd and dvd-9 a dual-layer?

    yes, dvd5 is single and dvd9 is dual layer, go to glossary on ur left and it'll tell u what each are.
