I need your help, advanced people!!!

I originally posted this in the newbie section, but I felt its time to pick the brains of you advanced people!

My Sony DRU-500A is not reading dvd discs...well I cant really say that...it will read some...but on say a data dvd disc with music, etc, it will not read it at all....then it will eventually say not responding in task manager. It will read cd's just fine.

And here is the weird part...it shows up in My Computer as a cd drive and not a dvd drive.

I have had this issue with my other system with the same drive (recently upgraded) but I somehow fixed it.. but for the life of me cant remember what fixed it.

I am running Windows XP....I have it hooked up to the 2nd IDE channel with the DVD Burner as the Master and a cd burner as the slave on the same IDE cable.

I use Nero 6...but dont think that has anything to do with my issue here since I am not accessing Nero to just view a disc. Unless Nero overwrote some file?

SO has anyone had this issue? In a nutshell my drive can access regular cd's, but when it comes to DVD discs it will not open and show up as not responding in task manager or it will say nothing is in my drive when there is.

Someone suggested the ASPI thing? Think that would work? Do I need a new IDE cable? Should I set the jumpers differently? Is there a Nero update? HELLLLP!

I have had this problem, and it stemmed from not finalising the DVD when burning the data onto it. Also, try inserting the blank DVD before starting your burning program. Windows MAY ask if you want to format it. Tell it yes, then go ahead and burn your data.

This should cure the problem. I hope.....
