Personally I would stick with Corsair memory. It is worth every penny. The other brands you mentioned are pretty good as well, Mushkin being my next favorite choice. Just make sure it is name brand and from a reputable company and you should be ok. Don't buy the super special generic crap that you find at a lot of places.

On a side note, your BSOD problems very well could be OS related. You might want to format the hard drive and start from scratch to see if that fixes the issue. It could save you some money and wouldn't hurt to do anyhow.

I had Kingston and Crucial and finally rested on Mushkin. Kingston was OK stuff, and their customer service was great when returning used memory for a full refund when I was having problems with it. Turns out it was actually just the Crucial stick I was using wasn't playing well with the Kingston stuff. I put in all Mushkin 512MB sticks to end it all. I'd probably still use Kingston, but the Crucial stuff was giving me BIOS beeps maybe 1 in every 20 boots. Never tried Corsair so I have no comment on that. The Mushkin is pricey but I've had it in for 4 months now and not a single problem.

This man speaks truth. Corsair has been nothing but perfect for me.

  6. I've put quite a few computers together and have found that it is more important that the memory is matched (same brand and model) than the brand alone (if you are using more than one slot). I have settled on Toshiba for the same reason I buy Craftsman tools, lifetime guarantee. They may not be the very best, but I haven't had any memory problems and if they go out they will be replaced (hang on to the receipt; tape it inside the cabinet).
I guess I've been lucky, but I've never had memory to fail or go out. It either works or doesn't from the get-go.

I'll put another vote for Corsair.
I have used the cheapy 'Crapola' brand stuff before, and it's not worth the packet it comes in.
Never had a prob with Corsair.
We'll be right back after these messages from Binford!

  8. Kingston is good, second only to Corsair IMO. The XMS series is particularly good.

Mushkin is good I hear, but I have no experience with it.

  9. Kingston gets my vote. Never had any problems with it. Unless you start mix and matching brands you might have problems

  10. I have been using Corsair 256 MB PC3200 for the past six months and I would recommend it for anyone who wants good memory.

    Update:

turns out my BSOD problems were from bad stick of memory. I just bought a new 512mb pc2700 ($50 after rebate) stick and all my programs that used to crash run smooth now. yay for me.
