  1. Which is more realiable and compatible, TDK or Maxell DVD-R's

I've used Maxell discs and have had 0 issues with them. I have no experience with TDK's. The TDK's I'm looking at buying sometime in the future are sold at Costco (canada)

I have a Pioneer DVR-A05 burner and the JVC XV N4SL player.

The Maxells work with this combination, do the TDK's also work?

MXL have slight edge. Both are excellent.

  3. You'll either get TDK's own (e.g.: 2x, spindle, -R) or Ritek (e.g.: 4x, spindle, +R or 2x, jewel case, -R) or TY (e.g.: 4x, -R). TDK's own media is excellent as well, so you get excellent media in any case.

  4. TDK's are good, but I would recommend Maxell. Maxell's are my second choice next to Fuji's.

  5. The very first DVD-R I've burned was a Maxell MXL RG01, not sure what I did wrong but the disc was unreadable (A04 burner). The rest of them burned fine after that. It's sad because that's the last time I've bought Maxell DVD-R's, I've always purchased their blank XLII cassette's though.

Just bought a 100 pack of TDK G02000000's from Best Buy $119 after $70 instant rebate... it was an impulsive buy, I've always heard TDK was reliable, haven't had any problems so far. Though I still prefer Maxell cassettes over TDK's. I've actually given up the use of cassettes as of this year ;]

Staples in US has ten pack of TDK (in jewel case) for $14.95. I picked up 2 packs of DVD-R. I noticed that the DVD-R packs seem to be made in Japan, whereas the DVD+R appeared to be made in Taiwan.

Sale should go through Jan 3, 2004

  7. i would go with maxell based on what people are saying, just for one reason. i've also bought tdk-r's from costco. i've had good results, no problems except that my ps2 backups didn't boot with those. so if that's what you're planning to do, then go with the maxells

Ditto that you can't beat the FUJI 4x Taiyo-Yuden discs but next to that I would put Maxell.

TDK is OK only if it says MADE IN JAPAN otherwise you'll get something like RITEK which I'm not sold on.

  9. but the Made in Japan 2x DVD-R TDK's are Maxell! And now the Maxell's are Ritek....
Look for Made in Japan and you should be fine.
If you can't find that hope that they are Ritek.
Or if you want to be certain of what you're buying just skip the guessing and get the Taiyo Yuden's... or even Ritek's at somewhere like Rima.com.

Not always. All my TDK DVD-R 2x Made in Japan discs are TDKG02.

  11. I have been purchasing the TDK DVD-r from both BestBuy and Staples in the 25 pack. With the exception of the "vx" being in upper case on two of the packs, the media info has always been:

    00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 98 0C 13 .B...@....P.....
    76 78 80 00 03 54 44 4B 47 30 32 00 04 30 30 30 vx...TDKG02..000
    30 30 30 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 000.............

for the 9 packs purchased so far. The packs are labeled "Made in Taiwan","DVD-R47ACB25", and they all have the same UPC code of "2035648277".

  14. The TDK 4x +Rs I have a Ricoh. Very good quality, and no jitters or bad burns with playback in Soyo DVD player or Plextor DVD Burner.

How good are the TDK 4.7GB (120 Minutes) 2x DVD-R Armor Plated Discs?

Sounds like these are the super alpha hyper diaper discs since they are armor plated for better scratch resistance!
