How many of you have lost movies in the mail from Netflix? I've lost 2 movies being sent back to them and 1 movie being sent to me.
Just wondering how common this is.

Sorry to crash but we don;t have netflix here what I want to know is what happens when they get lost, do you get charged ?
-
Never lost a movie. I only drop them off at a mailbox.
I do know for a fact that Netflix doesn't check in movies they receive the same day. Often movies received on a Thursday don't appear as 'received' until a Tuesday (they don't work on weekends). I would send them in with tracking numbers, and have postal proof.
I dropped them because despite having a center less than 100 miles away, I only ever got 3 movies/week. Since I wanted to see some series I miss from my youth, it was impossible. Series disks are seperated out (as are extra disks), and at 2 cartoons/disk, it was 29 disks. 10 weeks to see the series.
I got it from the library for free......To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
So do all the return mailers have tracking ?
-
I've dropped mine off at the post office and thats when 2 of them never got to them. My delivery's are pretty quick. If I send them in on Monday, they usually receive them on Tuesday and if I'm lucky get another batch on Wednesday, most likely on Thursday.
But I have noticed that ever since upping my account to 5 discs delivery has taken about 1-2 days longer.
To answer your question when losing a movie in the mail you just report it on the website. I haven't gotten charged for the 3 that got lost but they do make it so that you can purchase them if you want :P
And no none of the sleaves have tracking. That would be expensive to Netflix thus so would the monthly membership. -
I've been using NetFlix now for almost two years, never had any problems. I can go through 10 - 18 movies a month.

I've used them for nearly a year and only had issue with one (which was never lost, it turned up in my sons toybox a month after).
I sent two back last Friday (9th) and they're not showing up as being recieved, which is odd.
You get postage included (back and forth) too.
Their T&C's simply state that they appreciate things could get lost, but if it happens too often then they reserve the right to cancel your membership.
If you're thinking of trying one (two week free trail with lovefilm.com) let me know, I get a month for for every three referral's that take out a membership.

Yeah think I will, how much is the membership fee ?

I once sent back a copy of Rocky Horror to netflix and they never received it. All I had to do was report it on the web site and there was no reprocussions.
The only thing I can think of is that I have been using them for over a year and this is the only time a dvd was lost. I am pretty sure they took that into account. -
Are there any other "good" choices other than Netflix? I live in Western Pennsylvania. There are alot of movies I'd like to watch that I cannot rent or buy locally. I know I could buy them on-line, but I think I'd only watch them once, so a mailing service like Netflix sounds like a good idea... I was just wondering if there was any competition for them. Thanks.
2 DVD, or not 2 DVD, that is the question. -
Walmart also offers a service similar to netflix. I use netflix and get about 3 movies every 8 or 9 days.

I just had one that never came into thew mail and had to report it lost. They do not charge you, you just cant get a whole lot of "losts" in a very short time. My account is set up where I get 5 DVDs at a time. I liek about 15-20 Miles away form a Netflix Warehouse so it only takes one day to get a movie. I usually get anywhere from 3-7 movies a week to watch if I wanted to. I get a lot of episodes (eg. Simpsons, X-Files, Jackass...) because some I havent seen. Netflix is geat!

I've had Netflix for a month and was able to rent 18 movies during that period. I lost two days with Christmas Day and New Years day, so the rental total could have been higher. No lost movies, yet.
There are other services, DVD Avenue lets you rent games, as well. For those who are into PS2. -
I use a competitor to Netflix called EHit and the service was solid for about a year. However, in the past 2 months, I have had about 3 different mailings not show up. Since their service is 4 dvds out, each mailer has 2 dvds in it. I usually just click "did not receive" and there was no issue. This most recent time I was told that I had too many 'did not recieves' and had to buy the DVDs at $20 each.
Interestingly enough, the DVDs that I had not received *did* show up 3 days after I complained; I've never had a DVD delievery that took that long before. I wonder if they sent it out after I complaigned?
Regardless, how many DVDs can you 'never recieve' before netflix starts charging you? Has anyone else had a similar problem with netflix or ehit? -

wow, you guys get a lot per month. i can only get 3 every week. i get 3 on wednesday, watch them, send them back on thursday, netflix gets them by monday, sends 3 more out, and i get them on wed again. is there any special tricks to getting more per week? should i send them out on a different day or something?
-
i'm averaging 6 dvd's a week, and every 3 or 4 weeks i can get 9.. hopefully historical black leader day (monday) doesnt throw my method off.

@Sitlet
I believe it has to do with where your located. I'm in Chicago, and I know Netflix has a warehouse here. I return them on any day Monday thru Friday, and Netflix gets it the next day. They send it out the same day, and I get it the following day. -
I had 3 lost last year, just reported them MIA and it's no biggie, they don't charge you for them.

Out of 3 years, I only had one lost in the mail...but it's much more common to receive damaged discs.
I ususally get at least one per month that is cracked - they should send them in a padded sleave to help prevent that from happening.
They'll replace damaged discs when it's reported, and there's no extra charge, but that usually screws up your waiting period for the next movie you're waiting on.
I'd have to say Netflix is a better service than Walmart.
Walmart is extremely slow, and they don't replace damaged discs...you have to wait until they recieve the damaged disc before you get another, and you have to re-order to get a replacement for the one that was damaged.
Worst part about either is the waiting period between titles that are marked as short wait, long wait, very long wait
If you get those for any Walmart titles, you may as well forget about ever receiving those.
They also say some are available, but don't send them...even if they are at the top of your priority list, they'll continuously skip over them and send one that's further down on your list instead.
Walmart offers more obscure titles - Netfilx pulls a lot of stuff that doesn't meet with their standards.
I only recommend either if you're looking for harder to find titles.
Neither is worth it for stuff you can easily rent at your local video store. -

Did have one really strange issue where a film never got to me but a few days later it was marked as returned.. AWWWWW!!! So on of my neighbors got it, watched it and mailed it back I think!!Oh well, at least the did not keep it.
As for mailing films back it is a REALLY good idea to make sure they are getting mailed in a post office or closed big blue mail box. Not the local apartment drop or one of the drive up boxes where someone can fish the mail out of them. I think a lot of netflix DVDs lost are not really lost by the USPS but stolen before if can get into the hands of the USPS.
Even with the wait it still way better to go netflix then blockbuster and so on. Cheaper, better range of films and the only down side is some hot films take FOREVER to get in.. So that sucks if you really want to see one or two films and only those films. If your a fan of movies and willing to flex as to what is sent on the list or rent box sets netflix etc is hard to beat. -

Hmm... strange. I'll have a look later for the picture. I know the full sized version was used for various newspapers and websites and I think the video was on the news.
