  1. Ok guys, here's the deal and I hope someone can help me out. Downloaded a movie in avi format. Was able to convert to mpeg2 and combine the files. Authored with Tmpegnc author to convert to TS files. But when I go to burn them onto a DVD with Nero, I get the typical error message that the files are too big for the DVD. What can I use to shrink the files or adjust the bitrate so it will fit on the DVD-R. I have tried to use DVD shrink,Tmpegnc and one other piece of software to try and shrink but none have worked or I get error messages. Can anyone give me a hand here. Thanks.

  3. I have tried to use DVD shrink, but have not been successful. Do you have a place that shows a walk through on what and how to use it? It's possible I am doing it incorrectly.
    Thanks,

If you are using dvdshrink 3.0b then you will get error, use dvdshrink 2.30.You didnt specify which dvdshrink you are using or if you even tried the other version i suggested.

if there downloaded avi's, the quality probably isnt that great to begin with. you'd probably be better off making mpeg1, it takes up a lot less space

  9. When I try to use dvdshrink, I get the following error: DVD shrink encountered an error and cannot continue operation. Unhandled exception OnIdleFile. The reason is:Unknown.
I have also tried dvd2one and get an error that stated that it encountered encrypted files and cannot continue.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

  10. Re-author the DVD without any region coding...that may be the problem. I haven't used the TMPGenc Authoring program, but there should be a region setting in it somewhere...and if there is a CSS encryption option turn that off also. Then try DVDshrink or DVD2ONE.

  11. There are no optins for region coding.

  13. I think you are attacking this problem from the wrong angle. Instead of trying to reduce the size of the file after conversion why do you not just make it a lower size in the first place. I would use the following method, guides can be found on the specifics if you do a search.

Virtual dub (remove audio to wav file)
Tmpgenc using above audio and original video, select MPEG2 and allow it to use best fit.
    Tmpgenc DVD author
    Burn with Nero

If you need any more help just post back.

  14. I was able to remove the audio, but when I try to use Tmpegnc to convert to mpeg2 and combine the audio and set the bitrate and all I am getting errors. I get the following: EInvalidPointer caused at 00002Fo2 of module TMPGEnc.exe Invalid pointer operation.
I have also tried using HeadAC3he to convert the AC3 file to a .wav and it gives me an error as well. Seems nothing is working.
    Thanks,

    hey ello.
ok heres my deal. it took me eons to finally burn A successful movie(avi, dvd, mpg etc...) but I managed to do it. i did have the same problem as you my friend. All the advise i can give is to reduce the Bit rate manually. As follows for dvd- nce you have captured your movie with nero click onto MORE (options) then video options, then dvd-video. you will see bit rate, reduce it til it allows enough room to burn the whole movie. you wont see a change in the used space on disk til you clik ok and set the settings as the new default.
Or have you tried burning in dvd+?
Nero automatically does everything for you, right down to encoding, making sure its the right size.it automatically reduces size and setting,i didnt have to do a thing burning in dvd+.
Strange i know, but it worked for me!
    Good luck mate!

  17. I opened Nero, browsed to the TS files and moved them to the Video_TS folder. When i go into File then options, I do not see a video option to change the bitrate. I see the tabs, general, cache, language, sounds, expert features, database, ultrabuffer, filebrowser, and misc. Thats it.
Am I using the wrong file types or what?
    Thanks,
