I have some old Radio shows as MP3s, but they have been encoded at a very low bitrate 64kps. I want to increase this to 128kps (MP3 to Wav, back to MP3), so that they will play in my portable CD player.
I have tried to use BeSweet, but it doesn't seem to like files at low bitrates as the Wav that was created was silent save for a bit of crackling.
Can anyone recommend a program that will convert a low bit rate MP3 back to WAV? (only way I have got is to burn it onto a CD-RW as an audio track using Nero, but what a long winded way!)
Thanks in advance.

you play that file in real player and at the same time record using goldwave. set your volume control on auxiliary and at little low volume and start recording in gold wave. there you can record simultaneously while it plays throgh real player or any other player and you can set the bit rate as u want while recording

SCMPX can also handle it easily. >

You could also try a program from dbpoweramp.com it's mostly freeware, they have some extra goodies you can pay for.

If you use Soundforge you can clean up the artifacts a bit and reencode at a higher bit rate.

Thanks for all the help and advice chaps.
I have gone with verchad's suggestion, dbpoweramp and the first MP3 conversion that I carried out was perfect.
Thanks again - one very happy customer!
