  2. You could either copy it on the fly in nero but I would not recommend it.

Personally I would rip it in iso mode with dvd decrypter to your hard drive and then burn.

The main issue is that for some reason, DVDRs can't get ripped faster than 2x or so. So, if you have a DVDROM and a DVDRW, then if you record at 2x or less, you can generaly perform a copy on the fly.

If speed and simplicity is the requirement, then the best approach is to do a DVD Copy, with the DVDR in the DVDROM and the blank disk in the DVDRW, select copy and check the "copy to HD first".

Nero, doesn't allow you to verify the recording when you do a copy. If you want to do verify on the new recording, then you need to copy the DVDR on the HD (no ripping is needed), and then do a normal DVD Video write with verify enabled.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

In any of the COPY modes, there is the option for "COPY ON THE FLY", which means "no image". If the "COPY ON THE FLY" box is not checked, then your DVD will be copied first to your HD, then burned. DVD-Rs read much slower than commercial DVDs on some drives, so this can add considerable time to this action.

  7. You can copy files from your DVD-R to your hard drive using Windows Explorer by dragging and dropping, or by copy and paste methods. You don't need Nero for that.

I always thought this meant a buffer, not copying the entire file to the drive and then copying again to the blank

Nope. Means the entire thing (it's creating a disk image).
