  1. i remember a while back people talking about the first dvd's released to the public.. one thing i remember in particular was that some used mpeg1 video instead of mpeg2 video..

does anyone know of a commercial dvd that uses mpeg1 video?

the reason i ask is because i recently created a dvd-r with mpeg1 (vcd spec) video with dd 2.0 ac3 audio (192kbps), made with tmpgenc dvd author & burned with recordnow max.. it will start up at the menu in my playstation 2, but when i try to play any of the clips it stays at the main menu & only plays the audio..

if i had a commercial dvd using mpeg1 video and it didnt work (which i doubt it would), i could confront sony and sue them in to giving me a free dvd player that will..

(p.s.- the dvd-r i created isnt porn related, just incase you were wondering)

  2. I would say that no commercial DVD these days would be released in MPEG1 however if it was it would have to be one of the very first DVD's that were available to the public.

And in that case they would probably just give you a replacement DVD (that is in MPEG2) or like $20-$30 bucks.

  3. well i know it would be one of the first commercially released dvd's that would be in mepg1 =) thats why i asked for a specific title.

but i still find it really weird that the PS2 doesnt support dvd's with mpeg1 video, considering the disc is within the dvd specification.. i wouldnt be dissapointed if i tried using svcd mpegs with patched headers on a dvd-r and they wouldnt play (which they actually do).. but for something that is supposed to work & not work is bad news..

    its on like donkey kong!

  4. I got my first dvd player in June 1998 (first person I knew), and the dvd I got with it was Batman and LA Confidential. Anyone have any older than this.

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

My first DVD player (the one I still use, getting a new one soon) was from late '98 or early '99. It's old enough that it has a modem internally to support the DIVX movie disks that you used to be able to buy.

To stay on topic, none of the movies I got from that time period are MPEG1.
