  1. I have a Hitachi mini-DVD camcorder and am trying to get the various disks onto my hardrive for back up and to start doing some editing/combining etc. Problem is, Hitachi appears to have also mastered how to burn occassional errors into the disks so I can't rip clean, complete copies of these finalized DVD Rs. DVD Cloner and Nero Recoder simply stop when the reach the error point on the disks. DVD Decrypter ultimately manages ( after hours of trying to re-read at the error points )to rip a viewable version that can be picked up by PowerDVD, Windows Video Player, Nero Showtime, etc.

Problem solved, right? Of course not. While I can view the videos, Decrypter also picked up the errors so Nero ( I have the works with all the plug-ins ) still won't work. It either picks up only a few seconds of the main VOB file or fails at the error point if Recoder is called out.

What should I do? I have started to play around with Ifoedit in hopes of learning how to strip out only those portions that are good but I am already so far in over my head I probably going down the wrong path. Bottom line is, failure is not an option as these disks contain too many precious moments with my young children. PLEASE HELP!!!!

  2. If this happens on all or even on several of your disks you really should get your money back on that camera. Before you do that make sure it isn't your media. Try a different brand.

As for your current problem there is a product called DVD X Rescue. I had a disk that simply could be played but couldn't be copied (as you described). DVD X Rescue worked perfectly. I think I paid about $50.00 for it. If all the free alternatives fail it might be worth it to you. I've used it on three stubborn disks (wish I knew what caused the problem) and it worked on all.
