Hi, I have stupidly just upgraded my NEC 1300A firmware from 1.8 to 108v2 (the new hacked version by Herrie)
After doing this, my writer comes up with an error whilst recording "SCSI/ATAPI command timeout error" This occurs about a third of the way through the burn process on DVD-R Bulkpaq x Orange media. I used these prior to firmware upgrade without a single coaster. Now - all coasters!!!
I have tried now upgrading from firmware 108v2 to 1.9 but still get the same error. Is this a problem with my NEC writer or some drivers somewhere?
Can I fix this? Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think this is a fimware problem. Your drive is losing communication with your operating system. Try unplugging ad re-plugging the data and power connectors on all devices on that IDE channel. This usually solves that problem.

Thanks for your reply. I've read up on what you said, it all makes good sense. Unfortunately I tried what you suggested and no joy, still more coasters. Even tried re-installing ASPI etc, not a sausage.
I eventually had to completely re-format C drive and re-install Windows. This has resolved the problem.
Advice to anyone looking at Firware upgrades - DON'T DO IT!!!!! (Unless you absolutely have to)
Thanks for your help though.
