  1. Well I have a relatively short film on VHS that I am going to capture then convert. My question is this, the film is just under an hour long and I would like to convert it to VCD or SVCD, I have used a bitrate calc and I am going to have it at about 1500kbit/s should I convert to XVCD or SVCD? My standalone plays them both fine so im essentially asking witch will give better quality, im leaning towards SVCD at the moment but would like some imput, thanks.

  2. With a 1500 bitrate I would go with XVCD. Theres a good chance that 1500kbps will give you macro blocks at SVCD resolution.

  3. Considering that your source is VHS anyway, you are probably better off creating a XVCD by capturing MPEG-1 352x240 @ 1500kb/s. I've made SVCDs at 480x480 and at a higher bitrate and find the quality is the same using VHS as the source.
