I think I am confused again.
reading some of the posts here,, the major thing the DVDR is great for is taking analog stuff & turning them into dvd's correct? like tv programs or old VHS tapes (home movies).
where digital video cameras,, can these also be transferred to the DVDR either to its HD or straight to dvd -/+R or DVD-ram? & is it better to use the FIREWIRE connectors for best picture? or can you use the
s-video & RCA?
OR is the picture better just transferring from the DV camera into the PC with a firewire? ( I already played with this & it was a P-I-T-A) I'd much rather skip the 'capture' portion of making a dvd of things.
thanks......... sorry if I ask too many questions![]()

now another thing I also read has me concerend(I am reading several web boards & newsgroups, trying to find answers),
that , when you are transferring the DV movie you recorded that the DVDR inserts chapter markers each time you 'had' paused or stoped the movie you recorded, so you could have dozens & doens of these.
is there any way to get around this? & I cannot figure out, does it affect the final result?? are there pauses or glitches when you watch the finished dvd? or is there a smooth recording?
(I'll figure this out yet) -
I've got a mini-DV camcorder; what I do with it is very incidental to everything else I'm doing, so I didn't worry about getting a DVD Recorder with FireWire. I've recorded a couple of DVD's from it straight to DVD-R, via the ordinary "video" outputs and inputs, and I thought the results were just fine. I suppose FireWire would be better, but unless your primary use of a DVD Recorder would be to record DV stuff, I sure think you can "get by" without it quite well. The results will still be excellent.

I have indeed heard that the machines will automatically give you such chapter marks for each time you hit the "pause" button during your taping session, but I have no experince with that. Certainly, though, one way to get around this little issue would be to just go through the normal "video" outputs and inputs -- only with FireWire could the machine know anything about when you hit that "pause" button or not. So, maybe another good argument about not even worrying about that FireWire stuff...
