Nero Shows 4x but I get 2x Burn

I have a Sony DRU-500a with Firmware 2.0f. I upgraded my computer a couple of months ago. My old computer with the Sony Drive w/2.0f burned TDK 2x DVD-R media at 4x using Nero. Nero reported the burn speed as 4x. Now, my new computer with this same drive and firmware burn the media at 2x but Nero reports the burn speed as 4x. I know I shouldn't complain because the media is clearly sold as 2x. But, I'd like to get the 4x speed if possible. Any thoughts, suggestions?

Rookie Mistake ... My Secondary IDE Channel, to which my DVD Writer and DVD-ROM are connected, were PIO. Changing that from PIO to DMA got my actual write speed back to 4x. 15-minutes to burn a full DVD-R with TDK 2x media.

The way I tracked it down was that my DVD-ROM read speeds were really slow. Changing to DMA almost double these read speeds (i.e., cut the read time in half).
