Sorry, can't determine where to post.
I'm finally satisfied with some of my first home grown DVD's ... and all the steps it has taken me to get from there to here.
Now a couple of questions regarding final storage of the finished products.
1. Once I'm satisfied with the final product, and its successfully burned to several dvds ... is there any reason to hold onto the intermediate steps for future technologies? ie. Original video, hi-8, avi ... what not. *** I am assuming I will never be editting this again, ... but if it should need to be converted to a greater technology in the future, ... I'll be okay with the DVD?
2. Along a similar line, ... is there any added value in storage an ISO image of the DVD? If you have a DVD, ... is there anything you can't later re-create if you don't have the ISO image lying around?
Regards, funkH

If you are truly satisfied with the final product, it's more a matter of personal preference whether you would want to preserve the original. DVD media by all claims has much better longivity than magnetic tape. If you have also made backup copies and stored them seperately, there's not much reason to keep the original. The ISO copy is a little different in that you could generate an exact copy easily. Maybe the best is to preserve the ISO version in a secure location as your backup. Technology is always improving. I guess it comes down to how close in quality you can make your DVD to the original.

in other words, ... if one is satisfied that the quality is as good as it is going to get, ... then it is sufficient to retain the DVD and dispose of the original magnetic media and/or captured intermediate files (AVIs).
As far as the ISO image, ... I'm still interested in better understanding how the image differs from the DVD? Is ISO the compression standard that is widely understood, ... so it might be smaller, and safer to use that version of data for long-term backup?
thanks
