  1. I hope someone can help me with this. I am new to VCDs and have been experimenting with making disks from various movies that I have downloaded from the net. I am using a G4 running system 9.0.4 and burning using Toast Titanium.

My first couple VCDs worked great. I then downloaded some more mpegs of equal size (about 550megs) and when I try to import them i get a warning like "can't create a vcd from this file. Use the "Video CD" option in your MPEG encoder/multiplexer".

I have tried using Quicktime pro to do this, but every single MPEG that I have tried has "an invalid track".

Any help in figuring this out would be greatly appreciated!

  2. The most probable reason is these MPGs are not VCD compliant. You should try to force burn them by using VCDGear (.mpg -> .bin/.cue) and then burn the BIN in Toast VCD Mode. If that doesn't work, you must re-encode the file with Cleaner 5.

  3. Well, I have tried converting the files using VCDGear but I get a warning about the pack size being incorrect. VCDGear recommends to remultiplex the files.

I then tried Cleaner 5 but when I go to encode I get a message saying there is a Quicktime export error.

Are there any suggestions on what I might try beyond those already suggested? What software can I use to remultiplex on the Mac?

    Thanks

Use VCD Imager in OS X. It is most likely that the file you downloaded contains menus (like DVDs), VCD Imager should take these out.

  6. Open the file in TMPGENC, make sure to load the proper VCD template (NTSC or PAL) and re-encode. The resulting file will be VCD compliant.
