  1. I've tried about 3 or 4 different DVD ripping programs, and none of them want to work. I look at guides and get everything set up, but as soon as I hit the "Rip DVD" button, I get an error that says "programname.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows." What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help.

It sounds like your windows install is a bit dicey. I would recommend a format and re-install as a last resort but it seems as though it may be required if all programs you have tried are doing it.
    If in doubt, Google it.

How is your ASPI layer? I had a friend who couldnt get any rips done at all. Put in a new ASPI layer and everything worked great after that.

  6. Yeah, my windows is a little sketchy right now. I haven't reinstalled for 2 years, and I don't really have the time for it. However, I created a new user recently (ATI TV player wasn't working in the old login, so I created this new user and all was fine) and the ripping programs still didn't work.
Could you please explain what an ASPI player is? If this could solve my problem, I'd like to know a little about it. Thanks.

Hi! Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Holidays can be a real distraction... In simple terms, the ASPI layer is what helps the program talk to the DVD drive. If your layer is out of date or corrupt, you wont be able to talk to the device. I had this problem once. I would either get serious amounts of errors or the program would simply refuse to work. To remedy this, go to http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverindex.html?sess=no&language=English+US&...ce=home_header There you can download the latest ASPI layer installer for your OS. Make sure you reboot afterwards and all should be well. Good luck!

You need Administrator access to rip. Your running W2K right? Did the new user you created have admin rights or just regular user?

  9. Yeah, I have admin privilages. And don't worry about the delay in response. I've been busy with holidays aswell, so I haven't had a chance to get to these boards. Thanks a lot for your help, I'll try installing the new ASPI layer now.

  10. If adaptec 4.71 doesn't work try ForceASPI drivers.

    Happy to help!
I have gotten some great help on this site and want to return the favor. It was the Eazy VCD part that caught my eye. I can use 1.14e just fine, but as soon as I put in 1.15 it freezes. Havent been able to do anything with it. Finally switched over to DVD2SVCD. That and a little DSROba makes for a pretty nice backup.
