Okay, this one is freaking me out, and for the love of mike,
    I can't figure this out.

Using the tried and True of DVDBackup/DVD2OneX,
I backed up a copy of T3: ROTM for my brother to watch
over holiday. I verified that the Video_TS of both discs
(2 disc set) are playable on the Mac. Burned to DVD
using Toast 6, at 1x speed, to Comp USA White Top
1x media ( their Media they always have on sale).
    Verified before eject, everything ok.
Inserted each disc and played through Apple DVD player,
    plays fine, no problems.

I took and sat the DVDs in a clear clamshell DVD case,
on my desk until my brother arrived that afternoon,
    like 3 hours later.

Gave it to him, but first put it into the trusty RCA 5240
to play and give him a sneek peek.

First disc one, played but began skipping and stuttering
( showing bad pixalization, and eventually stopped
the RCA dead in its tracks.)

The second disc, the specials disc, would not even load,
it came back with "no Disc Found".

I promptly took both discs back to the Dual G4, and put each one,
in one at a time and launched Apple DVD Player, Each disc played
    back perfectly!!!

Took them back to the RCA, and now disc one plays fine, but Disc two
    still errors out the RCA!

I cannot figure this out. I gave him the disc one to test, and kept disc two.
I noticed on both that their was a little dust, but even blowing that off,
didn't help. I am going to try Galactica's soap trick, but
if that doens't work,I'm stumped!! Anybody got any ideas?

Computers are notorious for being forgiving to budget media. Settop playback should be your ultimate barometer for which media brand to purchase. Though still pricey, my preferences are TDK and Apple.

    Agreed...
my comptuer can play a disk i take my steel wool patch too yet my set top says no disc!

TDK is what I would go with. Its the MOST reliable media i have come across.....

  4. To be honest, gents, after recieving all of the information that you were so kind to share.... I upgraded the quality of my media/discs, and "Viola!!!". My troubles were ended. I attemted both TDK, and Apple brand discs with varying results. I then went, and purchased Samsung 1x discs. I'm fifty for fifty thus far with this brand. Well worth the money.

    Drake

    Ok, guys....
I used the magic soap trick of Galactica's on disc 2,
let it air dry, used my flat monitor cloth to wipe free,
put in the disc into the rca 5240, and volia!
    A working disc!!
I watched all the documentary, not an error.

This magic soap trick is wonderful!!

But it still got me to thinking of all the probs,
    with the CUSA specials disc.

We use the Samsung/BeALL general purpose
media from Meritline at work, and hardly
have an issue. in fact like 1 bad disc in 200
last I heard. I think for the time being I'm switching
to those, and staying away from CUSA specials.

I, too, have succumbed to the CompUSA $1-per disc sale. Their white-top bulk CDs can be purchased in packs of 15 ($14.99) or 25 ($24.99) but in actuality, I've had 1 in every 2 become coasters with the same simptoms described above (blocky pictures, skipping/stuttering then finally stopping toward the ending of the movie on a set-top DVD player as well as my Powerbook and G4 tower; used DVD Backup 1.3 and DVD2OneX 1.21 movie only). I have sinced moved to Apple brand (about $3 per disc) and am currently trying the 4x Memorex discs (on sale at Office Depot buy one get one free pack of 25 for $49.99). So far, no problems, even on 4x burns with my internal Pioneer DVR-105.

Let me know how the Memorex's work for you.
I have had bad experiences with their CD-R media,
so I have stayed away. All my Apple Branded discs
have no problems, and a reburn to a Meritiline
produced no problems on playback in the settop
    and the G4!

for dvd's that are stubborn to rip after playing each chapter in dvd or vlc you can use a mild hand soap with warm water. rub the soap on the disk with your fingers. rinse off with warm water.

shake the disk dry and let it air dry.

remove any water spots with a lint free cloth (i use my lcd screen wipe)

the trick is not to use anything that could scratch it to dry it off

believe it or not but towels, paper towels, even toilet paper can scratch it.
kleenex too and what a mess if you use the lotioned kleenex!

basically it cleans the disk of fingerprints and removes any debris that may be affecting the backup
