I'm trying to make VCD/SVCD's with a DV master card and Dv software which captures about 10mins of video in 2Gb. I'm using TMPGEnc to convert AVI's to VCD format. Quality is excellent but it takes too long.
Can anyone tell me if there is any software available to allow me to use the DV Master card at a lower capture resolution and/or to avoid the 2GB max size. Have tried VirtualDub, won't allow me to change video capture resolution and doesn't seem that stable.
Just recorded 45mins of video and I now have 7 x 2gb files to convert and join. There must be a quicker method??
Can anyone help. many thanks.

How are you converting?? dv/avi >> mpeg >> tmpgenc/vcd??
You can try: vdub/avi >> frame server >> tmpgenc/vcd.

Thanks for reply - Source material DV tape - through DV master card to produce AVI file then into TMPGEnc. On my machine it takes about 4 hours to convert each 2Gb section. What I would like is to be able to capture one file - not lots of 2gb sections - and convert that in one go. Excellent quality no dropped frames - just too slow converting. I'll give Virtualdud another go.

have you tried avi io, it has a work around for going over the 4gb (or in your case 2gb limit) for capture. It also has dv support although you should check the page for details.

Tommy - thanks, avi io works fine. Can now capture in 4gb segments and join them later. Just need faster machine for encoding. Thanks again.
