I have a few avi files here I want to put onto dvd for the majority they're 640 x 480 (4.3 full screen display) some are 512 x 384 (4.3 aspect ratio) and a couple 672 x 368 (1.83:1 apsect ratio). Is there any way to convert these files into DVD Compliant 720 x 480 without stretching the video or making it boxed? I tried pretty much all of the options in tmpgenc and can never seem to get it any good and if I leave it at the size it doesn't really play very well on my dvd player. Also if there is any Virtual Dub or Avi Synth filters that can change the size while allowing me to fix this problem please post

I find it best to encode to 352x480/576 dvd compliant and leave the screen the way it should be.Encoding to full dvd resolution with low bitrate avi looks really crappy and trying to get letter boxed avi to full screen is even worse.

For TMPGENC make sure you have the Source Aspect Ratio as 1:1 and the Output Video Arrange Method as 'Fullscreen Keep Aspect Ratio'.
Also for 4:3 AVIs make sure you pick the normal DVD template from the wizard, and for wide(r)screen pick the DVD 16:9 template from the wizard.
This should then be ok when you playback on your standalone.
