  1. I am having trouble trying to Rip a brand new copy of "I am Sam" but am unable to get past a certain point using DSVD Shrink 2.3 & 3.0 beta, also DVD Decrypter software. The error reported is "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. The error is: Failed to read from file....the reason is: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)." I am unsure how to proceed....

By the way the original movie plays great , start to finish, in my DVD player.

    Thanks for any ideas/assistance!

    Dave....

  2. Hi forstatd.

This error usually happens when the original DVD is either damaged (scratched) or dirty (playing the movie is less demanding than ripping/analysing it).
If cleaning it doesn't solve the problem, you might want to try a "DVD repair" kit of some sort.

Try playing it in the computer DVD Player for a couple of minutes. I've had several undamaged discs that simply would not get past "That Warning Message" until after it was played in the computer for a little while.

I would not copy a rented title. But if I did, I would always check the disk before leaving the store. Kids dvds are played over and over and handled roughly (a very good reason to have backups of ones you own). So they are very often deeply scratched. your player may not have a noticable problem but any backup program might.

Definitely a reading problem - could be a scratch or a fingerprint. Give it a clean.
    If in doubt, Google it.
