Hi everyone..
I just got the pioneer A06 to replace my A03. When using 4X discs, the drive will only burn at 2.4X no matter which program I use. I have tried nero, Alcohol 120 and a few others. They let me choose 4X as the burning speed but only burn at 2X. Anyone have any ideas why this may be happening. I know the discs are true 4X because we tried them on a friends A05 and they did burn at 4X. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lookup the media your using in DVD media section on the left side of this website, that may help.

I looked at the list and it says that brand burns at 4X. I am using the dvdpro made by princo.

You said you Nero installed. Use Info Tool and click the tabs for ASPI and Configuration to make sure your ASPI is installed and working properly and that the Auto-run and DMA are on. You are most likely having a problem in one of these areas

Also, in Nero, in the "Burn" -> "Action" choose "Determine maximum speed". You can run only it, or both "Determine maximum speed" and "Write". This applies to Nero 5.5.10.54 -- which is recommended for DVD burning, for I heard Nero 6 has some bugs in DVD burning.
Also, out of a 25 pack of Princo x4, for some Nero reports maximum speed x4, for others x2.4.
To be on the safe side, I usually burn at x2, no matter what Nero reports as the maximum speed. -
Found the problem...My motherboard has an ata 133 controller built in and for some reason it does not like the drive. I swapped it with my dvd rom drive and am running it off the main controller on the motherboard. This fixed the problem with the 4X burning. Thanks for all your help.

I have a similar problem.
(Simulated) Burning at 4x fails, communication error.
Burning at 2x works fine.
I have the 106D (OEM) with v. 107 firmware (stock)
Running WinXP, Athlon 1800+, ASUS A7V266-E mobo, 512mb of ram,
2HD's, master and slave primary IDE channel
106 as secondary master, dvd rom as slave
Burning using Nero 6.3.0.0, also have Alcohol 120% installed with two virtual drives.
According to Nero Infotool, system ASPI is not installed, although the Nero ASPI is.
Using DVD-R, 1-4x rated media.
Have not tried rearranging drives yet. Will try this ASAP.
Any other possible help on the subject?
edit: also if it would make any difference, I haven't selected a region on the drive in its properties yet.
