It depenes on what type of settings you have. If you select highest quality and VBR, yes it takes a lot. Also you need a faster computer

  3. TMPGEnc is one of my favorite programs.

usually what i work on is either MPEG-1 or MPEG-2. i dont like using DivX because my computer has problems playing it back, when it plays MPEG-1 and 2 just fine.

and yes, it can take a very long time, especially since your file is so huge, and that it is in DivX format, which is very highly compressed.

i have a pentium 2 running at 450Mhz and it can sometimes take hours to convert something. i'm just glad TMPGEnc can automatically shut down when it's finished.

on some files tmpgenc doesnt see the end, so click on file, mpeg tools, merge and cut. add your file, highlight it, and click edit. now you can set an end point of your file.

I also like TMPGEnc a lot. It takes me about an hour to convert avi to vcd. I am making my first dvd right this moment in TMPGEnc from a 1.36gig file and it tells me it will take about 7 hours, but I am also using this pc right now. So if I would not be it would probably take about an hour and a half less. I think it's all about how fast your pc is.

  6. Check out this Lord Smurf guide. I think it will help trim time off encodes w/o a reduction in quality.
