Alright, I may be on the verge of something good here... building on the work of several people, but I must get ATI MMC 8.0, as it seems to be the key to a lot of what I want.

Interestingly, it is not available from ATI anymore. Only some beta tests and early 9700 users will have access to it ... maybe they know something they're not telling.

Anybody that has a CD I can borrow, or a place where I can download it ... please get back to me ASAP.

    Thanks.

EDIT1: It used to be here, but no longer... ftp://ftp.attitud.com/pub/pilotes/ATI/mmc/MMC-80.exe

The file name is MMC-80.exe ... though the CD version may be best to have ... if somebody can either send one to me or zip the files up (we'll figure out a way to transfer)

Was also here at one point: http://txtman.free.fr.free.fr/download.htm .. all mirrors are down too..

EDIT2: I'd like find out more about this as well, if anybody has seen anything about it: http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?s=ef31b136aa5052d03b9d0c101f3c4ed3&threadid...ht=mmc+128+pro
It appears his downloads are offline, as is the user there.

    EDIT3: Anybody here speak French? ... http://forum.radeonthetop.com/
Hard to understand when I cannot even find the search button .. french for search = what?

  2. Hi Smurf,

Give me the full version ID from ATI. I'll bet I have it on CD somewhere. I'll need you addy to send the file. What are you trying to hack? Top secret EH! are you trying to install MMC without the reg key?

  3. I don't think the word hack means the same thing to you 2 guys.

Maybe you can combine your (experiences) points of view. Seems like everyone around here with some xtra cash got an ATI. Maybe smurf will test/publish those drivers for you mak. I'm sure you can get a long list of 'can you make it do this' ?

1st thing on my list would be to allow a cap at 716. Those theater chip/drivers sample about 52.96microseconds of the line. 720 streatchs the pic to 53.33 and 704 squeezes it to 52.14.

Hey, but what is a few nano seconds anyway? I don't even have an ATI.

To be honest, I've been thinking about getting one. Maybe you'll push me over the edge.

  4. MPEG capture size must be a multiple of 16, so go with 704 or 720. Anything else will introduce resizing artifacts.

16 is kinda a good point, but why anyone would do direct mpeg is beyond me.

I really ment for AVI capture. Some other tid bits along these lines are huffyuv requies 4s, and with PIC mjpeg you can get away with 2s (I hear).

And it's not 'resizing' artifacts. Resizing from what? The chip/driver does not grab 720 or 704 samples. These are what you get resized to. I believe the 16 comes from how mpeg breaks the picture down into macro blocks. (Of course I could be wrong.)

Anybody around here ever try a test on one of these cards? Rant,..Rant,...Rant...

    Sorry. Sore spot for me.

  6. smurf,

hows the hack going for you? Did you find the MMC 8.0 yet. I had your email addy from a previous conversation, but must have lost it when I reloaded the OS a while back. Keep us posted.

I'd still like to have MMC 8.0 for later development, but my primary goal was complated by other means (getting an ATI AIW Pro 128 to accept ATI MMC 8.x and be able to use all the features).

Again, it seems the key to a few things may lie in MMC 8.0, and again, the "coincidence" is that this is one of the only ATI MMC's not available on the ATi site.
