DVD Shrink will not combine the two and keep the original menus, and you are an idiot for thinking it will. If you can do it this way... please, by all means, explain. Sorry I called you an idiot, but that's just an idiotic answer... you didn't even point this person in the right direction.

However, I do believe this is a topic that is eluding quite a few people. I haven't read anything yet to do this... If you find out, repost and let me know. Don't just tell me to read the guides... half wit.

@smearbrick, now thats totally uncalled for, why not just simply say you can't do it instead of personalising it in the way you did?

I guess some people just don't have manners at all

@DiablosuX102, there's no need to apologise for being a newbie, you only tried to help even if it was wrong. There's only one person here who should be apologizing and it ain't you :P

there ain't that many threads on this subject basically because it's bloomin hard to do that's why! Saving the cost of using a 2nd blank DVD does not even justify the time and effort involved to even think about how to do it, never mind even completing it and especially for a newbies

you could reauthor them using authoring programs or Ifoedit but is it worth it as you will find it hard to get them to work in the same way as the originals unless the structure is very simple!

I've looked at it the gave up when I realised I would also have to modify all the commands in the IFO's but I have added content to DVD's using a mixture of Ifoedit, Menuedit and basic hacking , but only for fun

Well the dvds I want to rip are like 2.5 gigs each so not too much compression.

I've seen it done before on some unlicensed DVDs I have but if it's too complicated I'll forget about it. Maybe I'll just use DVDshrink and do it with no menus, I know that I can do.

You could load both DVDs into TMPGEnc DVD Author and make your own menu. Then use Shrink of the final DVD.

  10. I too am trying to take two DVD5's and stick them on a single DVD-R, you say:-

"You could load both DVDs into TMPGEnc DVD Author and make your own menu. Then use Shrink of the final DVD"

but can you pad this out a bit and say exactly how you would do this, cos I'm lost. I've had a look at IFOEDIT and it seems a bit too complex, and even getting started editing IFO's is too unwieldy.

I'm a newbie at this game so please, HELP!

Hi Newbie! TMPGEnc is a great program to use as a beginner. Try this:

    1. Download DVDDecrypter. Switch to "File" mode and rip the DVDs you wish to backup to your harddrive.
    2. Download TMPGEnc DVD Author and install. Click on "Create New Project". This will start a new blank project.
    3. Click "Add DVD Video" and select the VIDEO_TS folder of the first DVD that you ripped to your harddrive. Select the title you wish to keep (the main movie) and click "Next". Keep "Reading Chapter Information" checked, and uncheck "Copy the clip video data to the HDD". Click OK.
    4. Repeat Step 3 for the second movie
    5. Click "Create Menu" at the top of the screen. Click on "Firstplay Action" and select "Play all Tracks". Create a menu here if you want one (not necessary).
    6. Click on "Output" at the top of the screen. Select or create an output folder. If you have two harddrives and the movies are on one of them, you can speed up the output process by selecting the other drive to write to (ex. - If you used DVDDecryptor to rip the movies to harddrive C, then select harddrive D for output assuming you have enough freespace).
    7. After DVD Author is done, use DVDShrink or DVD2One to compress the movie.

If you need additional assistance I can elaborate on any of the above. DVD Author version used is 1.5.15.49.

    Best of Luck,
    -Evan-

Try this link, it uses DVDShrink 3.0 beta 5

    http://www.dvdshrink.info/re-author-v3beta5-advanced.php

I use this version, and have had no problems so far, but as for combining 2 movies onto one DVD-R using DVDShrink, I can't comment on that as I use it just for doing straight one-to-one backups of my films

Also, hunting through the guides (which I assume you did ....), I found this link for DVD2One, which explains how to backup a DVD to a single DVD-R and also briefly explains how to put more than 1 movie/episode per DVD-R and with a very basic navigation menu if needed
